DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Branch & Program Director
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Time

Salary Range: $12-$15 per hour

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Boys and Girls of the Twin Cities (BGCTC) is an affiliate member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) with the mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” BGCTC is committed to fostering an “Optimum Club Experience” tailored toward quality programming that promotes academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and leadership, in all youth – especially in areas where it’s needed most.

BGCTC is looking for a dynamic, talented and passionate candidate to serve as the Teen Specialist of the Mt. Airy Boys & Girls Club in Saint Paul. The Teen Specialist is a member of the Youth Development Professionals team whose primary responsibility is to drive career and college readiness teen programming with focus on post-secondary education and career readiness, ensuring that each teen member has a solid plan for the future.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)

As Teen Specialist, your responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Managing the career and college readiness programming, activities, and partnerships
  • Lead implementation of the Teen Pathways program focusing on post-secondary education and career readiness
  • Ensure that all teen programing is conducted within quality standards aligned with best practices in youth development
  • Assist in the development of teen instructional strategies and techniques to improve program outcomes
  • Partake in a College and Career Center Community of Practice, participating in monthly conference calls and discussions with other Clubs throughout the United States.
  • Create opportunities for teens to make choices, have input or share leadership roles in the college and career readiness  programs and activities
  • Provide opportunities for teens to participate in Club-identified skill-building activities (ex: SAT/ACT prep, Accuplacer, customer service training, CPR certification, food handler certification, sports officiating training, vocational skills, etc.)
  • Coordinate and provide in-Club and external work-based learning experiences including paid or unpaid internships, seasonal employment or long-term volunteer opportunities for members who have completed CareerLaunch and Money Matters programs.
  • Conduct quarterly off-site college and career-related experiences including college visits, employer field trips and job shadow experiences.
  • Coordinate and host an annual college and employment fair for teens and provide leadership opportunities for teens to assist in the planning and implementation.
  • Form community partnerships that support workforce development programming
  • Conduct individual case management for participating members, at minimum annually, to ensure members are on track to graduate with a plan for the future
  • Recruit new teen Club members

Evaluation & Data

  • Ensure that all teens are rostered in the program and attendance is taken daily
  • Ensure that all teen participants are adequately assessed at the designated points of assessment
  • Track all teen participants to ensure appropriate progress in Teen Pathways milestones or to make recommendation for instructional adjustments to meet that progress

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • BA in youth development, education, sociology or related field
  • Previous experience leading college and/or career readiness programs for teens
  • Candidate should have at least 2 or more years of experience in community-based youth development
  • Experience working with diverse teen population preferred
  • Previous Boys & Girls Clubs work experience plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Candidate must be computer literate in Microsoft Office and have excellent skills in applicable software.
  • Must be able to drive company owned vehicles

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs, be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances. Occasional repetitive task required. This is a moderately stressful position that requires the candidate to be in excellent health.

HOURS:

  • During School Time: 1:00-9:00pm
  • Summer Season: Between 9:30-5:30pm
