DEPARTMENT:                              Development  
REPORTS TO:                                Director of Special Events
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT:          Internship / UNPAID
HOURS:                                            5-20 hours per week 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:   

The Boys and Girls of the Twin Cities (BGCTC) is an affiliate member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) with the mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."  BGCTC is committed to fostering an “Optimum Club Experience” tailored toward quality programming that promotes academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and leadership, in all youth – especially in areas where it’s needed most. 

To reach its commitment, BGCTC is looking for an energetic, creative, talented and passionate candidate to serve in the Special Events Department at Boys & Girls Club Site located in Saint Paul.  The Special Events Intern is a member of the Development Professionals team whose primary responsibility is to support and drive event programs for the organization.  

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

As a Special Events intern to Special Events Department –under the supervision of the Director of Special Events your responsibilities include but not limited to:

Program Implementation

  • Assist in the planning and execution of 3/6 annual events
  • Coordinate activities related to events including communication to committees, attendees, and donors
  • Assist with event day set up, registration, and end of event teardown
  • Help with data input of donor, sponsor, and auction information into Raiser’s Edge
  • Support office and administrative work
  • Support development professionals to drive Club and organization objectives and goals

Evaluation & Data

  • Support staff ensure all requested project are completed in a timely fashion
  • Meet with Director of Special Events for monthly meeting to discuss progress

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Current student studying or recent graduate with a degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Affairs, Media or related field
  • Candidate should be willing to experience in community-based youth development
  • Experience working with diverse teen population
  • Previous Boys & Girls Clubs work experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Candidate must be computer literate in Microsoft Office and have excellent skills in applicable software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 25 lbs, be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances.  Occasional repetitive task required.  This is a moderately stressful position that requires the candidate to be in excellent health.

HOURS:  Varying hours between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Event day hours can range from 6AM to 12AM
