REPORTS TO:                     Program Director
           
PRIMARY FUNCTION:   
The Health & Physical Education Director is responsible to direct a comprehensive health & physical education program including program planning and implementation, supervision of department staff and volunteers and facility and equipment management.
 
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
  • Oversee the daily operation of the gymnasium
  • Provide a wide range of program options for individuals, small groups and large groups that are age appropriate and engaging
  • Maintain a safety conscious attitude in performing duties and provide a safe environment for program participants
  • Teach and coach a wide variety of sports for both boys and girls including but not limited to:
    • Basketball
    • Baseball
    • Floor Hockey
    • Volleyball
    • Soccer
  • Supervise department staff and volunteers
  • Maintain positive collaborations with other area agencies
  •  Plan and implement a wide variety of special events & group clubs
  • Submit periodic written reports including statistical information
  • Communicate effectively with staff, members, parents and community partners
  • Must be able to drive company owned vehicles
  • Attend regular staff meetings including planning and evaluation days and oversee special projects as assigned
 
 
 
 
 
 
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Four-year degree preferred (a portion of this requirement may be satisfied by full-time Boys & Girls Club experience) in youth studies or other applicable field. Experience working with youth of a variety of ages in a drop-in atmosphere required. Also must have experience in program planning, special event planning and implementation and group club facilitation. Experience working with youth of a variety of ages, coaching and skill development in a multitude of sports necessary.  Must be a self-starter, creative, possess maturity in judgment, be very organized, enthusiastic and goal oriented. High energy level and a willingness to work outside normal business hours required. Should be computer efficient in all Microsoft Office applications. This is a part-time hourly position.
 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position offices at one of seven Branch sites.  Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs, be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances. Also must be able to coach various team sports and demonstrate skills to members.   Occasional repetitive task required.  This is a somewhat physically stressful position that requires the candidate to be in excellent health.
