SALARY RANGE:                   $75,000 – 85,000

PRIMARY FUNCTION:       
The Vice President of Development & Communications is responsible for developing and overseeing annual and long-range Resource Development strategies for all aspects of fundraising, marketing and communications initiatives to support the mission and highest priorities of the BGCTC.
This position is responsible for vision-setting, strategic planning and management of all major fundraising activities, including institutional and individual cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, creative services, database management, and volunteer management.
The successful candidate will expand and diversify the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities’ donor base and pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives.
This position must be able to balance supervising direct reports, coaching their direct reports on management of their staff, managing a portfolio of donors, and also working collaboratively with the CEO to lead all major gift efforts for individuals, foundation, corporations and the Board of Directors.
 
 
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
 
Leadership:
  • Serve as a member of the organizations senior leadership team
  • Lead a team-oriented, outcomes-driven Development & Communications Department, ensuring revenue targets for the annual campaign are met or exceeded
  • Manage income and expense budgets for department
Board Development:
  • Provide staff leadership on the Development Committee
  • Provide monthly written updates to the board on development and communications
  • Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee
 
Vision-Setting and Strategic Planning:
  • Develop annual and long-term fundraising strategies that ensure incremental year-over-year growth in revenue
  • Develop a donor-centered fundraising culture to retain and steward existing donors and to cultivate new relationships with family/corporate foundations and corporate sponsors
  • Raise the profile of the organization throughout Twin Cities market
 
Resource Development:
  • Create and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that raises annual and major gifts from a diversified portfolio of donors and ensures successful year-end results
  • Responsible for creating and implementing a plan that includes the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of all types of donor-investors
  • Direct all day-to-day operations and activities for the Resource Development Department while ensuring annual revenue targets are met or exceeded
 
Gift Processing and Donor Acknowledgement
  • Ensure solid processes are in place for gift processing and donor relations, including timely giftacknowledgements
  • Oversee monthly and annual reconciliation of development and accountingrecords
  • Work with development staff to assess and evaluate existing gift accounting process and tools, improving overall efficiency andaccuracy
 
Marketing & Communications:
  • Oversee strategy and schedule for delivery of creative services to external stakeholders including annual report, solicitation & stewardship materials, marketing decks, social media, website updates and other online communications
  • Increase the visibility of the Clubs and oversee the creation of a comprehensive marketing and public relations plan
  • Assist with gathering of footage/images for development publications and videos
  • Serve as the public relations and media contact for the organization working to increase theexpansion the coverage of BGCTC in the Twin Cities market; create and distribute media and press releases
     
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
  • Ability to think strategically and build successful fundraising strategies forgrowth

  • Excellent writing and copyeditingskills
  • Comfort working with fundraising databases and Microsoft Officeapplications
  • Strong organizational skills and a talent for creating efficiencies and refiningprocesses
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles related to resource development and marketing & communications required
  • Proven leadership abilities, including negotiation, employee motivation, problem solving, decision making, and delegation
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of philanthropic community; cultivation and solicitation experience with major donors
  • Experience in management areas of grant writing, foundation and corporaterelations, and/or special events
  • Demonstrated experience in areas ofmarketing andcommunications
  • Raiser’s Edge or similar donor relationship managementsystem
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Candidate should have at least five years of experience in the area of resource development and three years managing a staff team
  • B.A. degree is required, masters preferred

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal office setting with some occasional lifting required.  Also must be able to stand for long periods of time on occasion. Some travel may also be required. Position requires work outside normal business hours and moderate travel is required.
