PRIMARY FUNCTION:      
The T.R.A.I.L. (Together Raising Awareness for Indian Life) Program Coordinator will be responsible for implementing programming for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities in the area of Health and Life Skills using the T.R.A.I.L. Curriculum. Candidates will need to be able to develop and implement culturally sensitive programming for youth, ages 6-18. They will also need to possess skills in three essential areas: teaching the T.R.A.I.L. Curriculum and related components, coordinating and/or leading physical activities, and completing all program requirements, including reimbursements and administrative tasks.  Develop working relationships with local community, community partners and Club staff.  This position is part-time (20-25 hours per week).
 
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
  • Communicate program goals and accomplishments.
  • Monitor and report on the accomplishments of the program according to BGCA’s reporting expectations.
  • Assist with program evaluation
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate all components of the T.R.A.I.L. Program.
  • Recruit T.R.A.I.L. Participants, including non – club members.
  • Prepare and submit program reports according to the grant timelines; manage program attendance, and program data collection.
  • Integrate healthy lifestyle practices into the club culture including promoting physical activities and healthy eating habits.
  • Evaluate the T.R.A.I.L. Program components on a continual basis.
  • Establish multiple collaborative prevention partnerships with community health providers and organizations.
  • Conduct parent orientation meetings and engage parents in prevention activities.
  • Develop positive relationships with club members.
  • Facilitate discussion groups with club members, parents, and other community members.
  • At all times, act as a role model for youth and other staff, including modeling healthy lifestyle behavior.
  • Follow discipline procedures to keep club safe and positive.
  • Adapt the T.R.A.I.L. Curriculum, as necessary, to be locally and culturally relevant.
 
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
The individual should have experience in youth work and volunteer management. Knowledge of local communities served is important. At least three years working with youth.  Knowledge of youth development.  Supervision, public relations and communication skills are necessary. Coordinator must be able to work well with a team. Knowledge of budgeting and record keeping required. Candidate must be confidential and professional.  The ability to relate to youth and the ability to maintain good relationships with parents and the community.  Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.  Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, and coordinate activities and programs for youth.
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is located within Little Earth in South Minneapolis.  The individual must have a car and the ability to drive to multiple locations.  Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs, be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances.  Occasional repetitive task required.  This is a moderately stressful position that requires the candidate to be in excellent health.
