PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Boys and Girls of the Twin Cities (BGCTC) is an affiliate member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) with the mission to enable all youth people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens”.  BGCTC is committed to building a positive working environment where innovation and excellence is celebrated and rewarded.  Seeking to foster an “Optimal Quality Experience” for all youth participants BGCTC has designed quality programs that promote academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and leadership.

BGCTC is looking for an energetic, talented and passionate candidate to serve as the Program Director at the Voyageur Environmental Center.  The candidate is responsible to Branch Director and for the operation of programs in accordance with the policies and standards of BGCTC.  The Program Director must have an ability to get along with others, be able to delegate and coordinate program duties, and have an excellent knowledge of all Voyageur programs.  More importantly, the candidate must also be authentic, creative, open-minded, an enthusiastic camper, and a passionate youth-worker.

KEY ROLES (Essential Responsibilities)

Managing the Development and Implementation of Quality Camp Program

  • Leads the design and implementation of the program delivery model that drives high level of engagement and excitement as well as skills building.
  •  Manages operations process to ensure smooth program transitions, on-time strategic interventions, accurate reporting, and adequate staff supervision and support.
  • Develops and organizes effective trainings and other professional development opportunities for program staff to enhance their youth development best practices, facilitation of small group discussion and ability to adjust to the need of campers.
  • Leads the design and implementation of the recruitment system that includes designing of the content of marketing materials, job description, announcement/posting, hiring and retention of qualified camp staff.
  • Works to ensure an adequate supply of program supplies and equipment for the execution of the program.

Managing Evaluation System 

  • Oversees the performance measurement and ensure program staff have a clear understanding of the results framework and performance alignment.
  • Ensures that data collection and program assessments and improvements are completed accurately and on-time manner.
  • Facilitates communication of data between BGCTC, nonprofit partners, government entities and public.

Maintain Quality Program Standards

  • Leads the implementation of quality program standards throughout the BGCTC.
  • Identifies training needs and coordinate with others Branch and Program Directors in developing in-house quality training opportunities and build staff’s effectiveness in quality program delivery.
  • Promotes a culture of quality performance and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Maintains databases and /or other required documentation to measure quality performance and track improvement.
  • Develops or assists in developing tools to measure the key indicators and outcome measurements to determine whether and to what extend the training efforts produces the results desired to the staff and members.
  • Maintains and develops strong partnerships with local and national youth development and camp experts and organizations.

Skills/ Knowledge Required

  • BA in youth development, education, sociology or related field. 
  • Candidate should have 5 or more years of experience in camp setting within community-based youth development organization at the management level.
  • Knowledge and administration of camp programs, coaching of staff and community partnerships.
  • Previous experience working with diverse staff population in nonprofit or camp and BGC setting is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs, be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances. Occasional repetitive task required. This is a moderately stressful position that requires the candidate to be in excellent health.
