PRIMARY FUNCTION:   

The Grants Manager position is responsible for developing proposals whose funding supports the objectives of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities; in all aspects of research, proposal writing, stewardship, and reporting for grants, as well as presentations and some individual giving.  This position is responsible to assist a development team in raising the $5.4 million annual operating dollars needed to support the Clubs. 

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals, budgets, and accompanying materials to be reviewed by the VP of Development & Communications.
  • Research and identify existing and prospective funders appropriate for the Boys & Girls Clubs and maintain a working grants calendar.
  • Set priorities and develop an annual grants plan to be reviewed by the VP of Development & Communications.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with appropriate agency management and staff regarding grant activity and reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with granting agencies to clarify policies, procedures, guidelines, and interpretation of application instructions.
  • Communicate effectively with all funders, donors, board members, community leaders and co-workers through presentations and general communications.
  • Develop, write, edit, and submit interim and final grant reports.
  • Complete assignments to provide for program compliance and integrity.
  • Maintain all data and appropriate files pertaining to grants and other relevant issues.
  • Maintain Raiser’s Edge database grants records.
  • Support Development department events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to assist and support the Development department.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree and successful grant management experience with responsibility of raising over $1.2M annually.  Minimum three years of experience in grants administration, grants writing, professional/technical writing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating proficiency in the required functions.  Must have experience in working with diverse communities and diverse staff; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management, staff, community partners and public; ability to express facts and recommendations both orally and in written form; and demonstrated experience in reviewing and monitoring diverse funding streams.  Must exhibit excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret and package ideas in a clear and persuasive manner.  Should be computer literate, detail oriented, goal driven, flexible, team player, self-starter, and possess maturity in attitude and judgment.  Some travel around the metro area required with use of personal vehicle.  Must be efficient in all Microsoft Office applications and experience with Raisers Edge a plus.  Knowledge of greater Twin Cities’ philanthropic community is helpful. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal office setting with some occasional lifting required.  Also must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time on occasion. Occasional travel may also be required.
