ITLE: Teen Specialist

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Part- Time – 20 hours per week
Salary Range: $12-$15 per hour

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Boys and Girls of the Twin Cities (BGCTC) is an affiliate member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) with the mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens”. BGCTC is committed to fostering an “Optimum Club Experience” tailored toward quality programming that promotes academic success, healthy lifestyle and good character and leadership, in all youth – especially in areas where it’s needed most.

BGCTC is looking for a dynamic, talented and passionate candidate to serve as a Teen Specialist in North Minneapolis Beacon Club sites. The Beacon Network is a collaboration of four different organizations - YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities, the YWCA of Minneapolis, Minneapolis Community Education, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities - committed in delivering school-based quality youth services by combining the knowledge, capacity, and their areas of expertise. The Teen Specialist is a member of the Youth Development Professionals team whose primary responsibility is to drive Teen program with focus on post-secondary education and career readiness, ensuring that each teen member has a solid plan for the future.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)

As a Teen specialist, your responsibilities include but not limited to:

Program Implementation

• Lead implementation of the Teen Pathways program focusing on post-secondary education and career readiness
• Ensure that all teen programing is conducted within quality standards aligned with best practices in youth development
• Set up instructional stations on specific Teen Pathways program activities
• Assist in the development of teen instructional strategies and techniques to improve program outcomes
• Plan and lead college and career visits
• Guide volunteers and teen program staff assistants to provide instruction and manage stations
• Support your team of youth development professionals to drive Club and organization objectives and goals

Evaluation & Data

• Ensure that all teens are rostered in the program and attendance is taken daily
• Ensure that all teen participants are adequately assessed at the designated points of assessment
• Track all teen participants to ensure appropriate progress in Teen Pathways milestones or to make recommendation for instructional adjustments to meet that progress.

Skills / Knowledge Required

• BA in youth development, education, sociology or related field
• Candidate should have at least 2 or more years of experience in community-based youth development
• Experience working with diverse teen population preferred
• Previous Boys & Girls Clubs work experience plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Candidate must be computer literate in Microsoft Office and have excellent skills in applicable software.
• Must be able to drive company owned vehicles

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs, be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances. Occasional repetitive task required. This is a moderately stressful position that requires the candidate to be in excellent health.

Hours

• During School Time: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm (4 hours per day)
• Summer Season: Between 8:00am – 5:30pm (4 hours per day)
