Job Title: Advocacy Intern

Location: Twin Cities, Minnesota

Time Commitment: 20 hours per week, January - May 2025

About the Internship:

This exciting internship offers a unique opportunity for a Boys & Girls Clubs alumnus to gain firsthand experience in the legislative advocacy process and organizational operations. The Advocacy Intern will play a key role in advancing the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs at the state level and provide critical support to the organization's advocacy for state funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Legislative Advocacy:
    • Assist with writing legislative testimony, fact sheets, and other advocacy materials.
    • Attend legislative hearings and meetings at the Minnesota State Capitol.
    • Speak on behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs about their work with youth, and your own experience at the Club.
  • Meeting Support:
    • Schedule and coordinate meetings with legislators, their staff, and other stakeholders.
    • Take notes and provide summaries of meetings.
    • Track state advocacy from Clubs, board members and youth
  • Club Engagement:
    • Facilitate visits with legislators to local Boys & Girls Clubs.
    • Help organize and execute advocacy events.
  • Youth of the Year Support:
    • Assist with the planning and execution of the statewide Youth of the Year event.
  • Board and Committee Support:
    • Assist with scheduling and logistics for board and committee meetings.
    • Prepare meeting materials and take minutes.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Provide general administrative support to the advocacy team as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs Alumnus: Must have participated in Boys & Girls Clubs programs.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Current college student preferred.
  • Availability: Ability to work 20 hours per week, including daytime and/or evening meetings in the Twin Cities (St. Paul and Minneapolis). Reliable transportation is necessary.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to express yourself in writing and verbally in front of a group
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Passion for advocating on behalf of youth

This is an hourly, paid internship.
