DEPARTMENT:  Voyageur Environmental Center
REPORTS TO:  VEC Branch Director
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-Time Seasonal

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To oversee the sanitation and cleanliness of VEC to provide a clean, safe, healthy environment for our guests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

When Groups are on site

  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms in main lodge hourly
  • Clean and sanitize dining hall after every meal
  • Quick check and spot clean classrooms regularly
  • Assist with cleaning, disinfecting program materials (may include laundry)
  • If overnight group, quick check, and spot clean cabin bathroom areas.

Post Group

  • Deep clean bathrooms
  • Disinfect tables and chairs, sweep, floors in dining hall
  • Deep clean main lodge, Voyageur house and cabins
  • General cleaning (including mopping) of the kitchen, and dining room as needed
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Weekly

  • Dust and disinfect any unused areas of main lodge, Voyageur house and cabins
  • Submit cleaning supply order to Facility Director
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:   

  • A minimum of 2 years documented experience in janitorial and/or a cleaning service
  • Self-starter who can work independently
  • Ability to relate well to children, youth, and adults, have good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate gas, electrical, and mechanical equipment
  • Ability and knowledge to visually determine the cleanliness of the entire facility, and take corrective action as needed
  • A team player who will support other staff and subscribe to the mission of BGC-TC.

PREFERRED:

Previous experience in cleaning camp, school, resort, or business environments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is located at Voyageur Environmental Center, a 100+ acre outdoor facility with over a mile of trails over hills and through forests and an active waterfront on Little Long Lake. This position has a significant amount of outdoor work and individuals must be able to be outside in all kinds of weather. 

Individuals must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs., be able to stand for long periods of time, walk moderate distances, move objects (i.e., lift heavy garbage cans, move tables, chairs, and equipment) reach for objects, and bend/twist at the waist. This is a moderately stressful position that requires the candidate to be in good physical and emotional health.
