TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-Time (benefits earning)

SALARY RANGE:              $55,000 – 60,000, DOE

PRIMARY FUNCTION:      

The Boys and Girls of the Twin Cities (BGC-TC), an affiliate member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) has a mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”  BGC-TC is committed to fostering an “Optimum Club Experience” for staff and members. Through this commitment BGC-TC quality programs are designed with the goal to drive academic success, healthy lifestyles, and leadership & character for all club members.

BGC-TC is looking for a dynamic, talented, and passionate candidate to serve as Branch Director of Voyageur Environment (VEC) Camp in Mound, Minnesota. VEC is a year-round environmental education center that offers residential and non-residential programs to young people K-12 from the clubs and surrounding communities. VEC programs include, but are not limited to bird and insect study, outdoor survival skills, canoeing, wild edibles, hiking, lake exploration, cross country skiing, paddle boarding, archery, snowshoeing, gag ball, etc.  In addition, VEC is also a learning space for conferences, ceremonial space for weddings, birthday, and family reunion, as well as a human connectedness and healing space for retreats.

The Branch Director is a member of the leadership team whose responsibility is to provide full on-site management of the residential and non-residential camp. Ensuring that the Camp is operated in compliance with national and state government operation standards and funding guidelines, as well as strategically aligning all programs to meet the overall organizational goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership:

  • Work collaboratively with Program Director to develop and implement Camp’s goals and objectives to align with the overall BGC-TC’s and BGCA’s strategic plan.
  • Provide direction and coaching to all staff, volunteers, and interns to insure elevated level of learning experience of all campers.
  • Lead the coordination and facilitation of all engagement events with donors, community partners, board members, volunteers, and parents.
  • Lead the development and management of community collaborations and school partnerships to support the goals and the mission of the camp and the BGC-TC.
  • Help lead the professional development program to strengthen staff capacity to deliver quality camp programming.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to ensure that all camp operations are in legal compliance with BGCA national safety and quality standards and meet the government and foundation funding priorities.
  • Help lead the development and implementation of funding strategies to fully finance the operations of Camp Voyageur.

Resource Management:

  • Lead the development and management of organizational partnerships that are essential to achieve successful camp funding, objectives, and goals.
  • Represent the BGC-TC leadership team in important meetings with funders, business leaders, local government leaders, and community members.
  • Lead the management of program contracts and provide resources necessary to achieve program outcomes.
  • Lead the budgeting, financial management, and reporting of the camp operations.

Evaluation & Reporting:

  • Ensure that evaluation planning and implementation is done with accuracy and on time to measure camp experience.
  • Ensure statistical information is tracked and collected to meet grant requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Youth Development, Education, Environmental Studies, Sociology, Social Justice, or related field.  A Master’s degree is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of interconnectivity between environment, youth development and social justice.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in operating a residential camp, supervising camp staff, and managing community-based youth development organizations.
  • Strong partnership development and relationship management skills with school districts, non-profit or profit organizations/company and government agencies.
  • Experience working with diverse youth populations in a camp setting.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and experience in Microsoft Office; Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc., and other applicable software.
  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license and be able to operate a company owned vehicle.

PREFERRED:

  • ServSafe Food Manager certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • First Aid and CPR Certified Trainer or Have Advanced First Aid and CPR certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs., be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances. Occasional repetitive task required. This is a moderately stressful and physically demanding position that requires the candidate to be in good health and physically fit to meet the demands of outdoors activities.

HOURS: 

  • During School Time: 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • Summer Season: Between 8:00 am – 11:00 pm. Occasional overnights may be required.
