TITLE: Education Specialist 
DEPARTMENT/CLUB: Operations
REPORTS TO: Branch Director
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time (non-exempt, no benefits)
SALARY RANGE: $19.23 – $21.63 per hour (DOQ)

The Boys & Girls of the Twin Cities (BGCTC) mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The BGCTC is committed to ongoing strategic initiatives to reduce systemic racism throughout the Twin Cities and have defined ways that the Club serves as an activator in addressing the extreme disparities for young people in the communities we serve. The Club is implementing a program model that directly impacts the educational achievement gap in partnership with teachers/schools and parents/guardians.

The BGCTC is looking for an energetic, talented, and passionate candidate to serve as the Education Specialist “floater” to help address the varying needs of Club members. The Education Specialist is a member of the Youth Development Professionals team whose primary responsibility is to drive academic outcomes, ensuring all Club members are on track in school.

* This program is partially funded with a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) using federal funding, CFDA 84.287, 21st Century Community Learning Centers. This program does not necessarily represent the policy of the federal Department of Education or MDE and you should not assume endorsement by the federal or state government.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Program Implementation

  • Provide support for a small class of elementary age youth.
  • Execute an innovative and comprehensive approach that includes fun and engaging youth development practices, and social emotional learning methods within an education program, focusing on driving literacy (phonetic/fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) and STEAM.
  • Ensure that all education programing is conducted within quality standards aligned with best practices in youth development.
  • Assist in the development of academic instructional strategies and techniques to improve academic outcomes.
  • Support your team of Youth Development Professionals to drive Club and organizational objectives and goals.
Evaluation & Data
  • Ensure that all youth participants are rostered in the program and attendance is taken daily.
  • Ensure that all youth participants are adequately assessed at the designated points of assessment.
  • Track all youth participants to ensure appropriate academic progress or to make recommendation for instructional adjustment if desired progress did not occur.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Knowledge of development and administration of youth programs, staff supervision, event coordination and community partnership.
  • Strong partnership development and relationship management skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skill.
  • Candidate must be able to use Microsoft Office and have excellent skills in applicable software.
  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license and be able to operate a company owned vehicle.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor of Arts in youth development, education, sociology, or related field, with two (2) or more years of experience in community-based youth development programs
  • Knowledge of development and administration of youth programs, staff supervision, event coordination and community partnership
  • Preferred previous Boys & Girls Clubs work experience a plus.
  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license and be able to operate a company owned vehicle.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs., be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances. Occasional repetitive task required. This is a moderately stressful position that requires the candidate to be in good health.
