DEPARTMENT/CLUB: Operations/Beacons
REPORTS TO: Program Branch Director
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time (non-exempt, no benefits)
SALARY RANGE: $19.23 - $21.63 per hour (DOQ)


The Boys & Girls of the Twin Cities (BGCTC) mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens." The BGCTC is committed to ongoing strategic initiatives to reduce systemic racism throughout the Twin Cities and have defined ways that the Club serves as an activator in addressing the extreme disparities for young people in the communities we serve. The Club is implementing a program model that directly impacts the educational achievement gap in partnership with teachers/schools and parents/guardians.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Boys and Girls of the Twin Cities (BGCTC), an affiliate member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) has a mission to enable all youth people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens". The BGCTC is committed to fostering an "Optimum Club Experience" tailored toward quality programming that drives academic success, healthy lifestyles, and leadership & character for all Club members.

The BGCTC is looking for a dynamic, talented, and passionate candidate to serve as Program Instructor at Centennial Elementary Club. The Richfield Public School Club locations are part of the Richfield Beacons Network, a partnership between the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities, and Richfield Public Schools.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Program Implementation

  • Provide daily instruction focused on literacy (phonetic/fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) and/or mathematics for youth in grades 6-8.
  • Set up instructional stations using specific academic program activities in areas of reading, writing, S.T.E.A.M., healthy lifestyles, and leadership.
  • Ensure that all education programing is conducted within quality standards aligned with best practices in youth development.
  • Assist in the development of academic instructional strategies and techniques to improve academic outcomes.
  • Support your team of youth development professionals to drive Club and organization objectives and goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Richfield Branch Director and Program Director to ensure that the C lub’s program implementation goals and objectives are aligned with the BGCTC “Great Futures 2025 Strategic Plan.”
  • Assist and support the Branch Director and Program Director to ensure that Club's operations are in legal compliance with national and state safety and quality standards and meet the funding priority.

Data and Evaluation

  • Ensure that all youth participants are registered in the program and attendance is taken daily.
  • Ensure that all youth participants are adequately assessed at the designated points of assessment.
  • Work with the Program Director to communicate youth progress with family, school personnel, and Club member.
  • Track all youth participants to ensure appropriate academic progress or to make recommendation for instructional adjustment if desired progress did not occur.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • An associate degree in youth development, education, sociology, or related field, with two (2) or more years of experience in a community-based youth development or education field; OR a high diploma (or equivalent) with four (4) or more years of experience in a community-based youth development or education field.
  • Experience with Positive Climate practices or Responsive Classroom techniques
  • Knowledge and administration of youth development and/or education programs in the out- of-school setting.
  • Candidate must have a good knowledge and proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and have a good skillset in other applicable software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good skills in organizing materials electronically and hard copy.
  • The ability to build and maintain good partnerships and professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate in writing and verbally, clearly, and effectively.
  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license and be able to operate a company owned vehicle.

PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in youth development, education, sociology, or related field.
  • Experience working in a school or Boys & Girls Club.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to climb stairs, lift at least 50 lbs., be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and be able to walk moderate distances.  Occasional repetitive task required.  This is a moderately stressful position that requires the candidate to be in good health.

During School Year: 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm (hours may vary)
